This topic is very interesting for me because we live in a small island in the middle of the Atlantic, although we belong to Europe, we are right in the warm area around the tropics where new material technologies will be needed. We still build the same old way, and we pay really hard our isolation. As in island we don't have any steel industry, so we have to buy every material we use for structures, and we can only receive it by ship, increasing the prizes. Even when we have the arids used to create concrete, we don't have any chemical industry in order to create cement. And we are just talking about the very first step in construction process. In the photography, where we see the simplest step in the process, we already appreciate the inefficiency of the process. If we go further and we think about finishing layers, flooring and tiles, we can imagine the huge impact of flows in construction in Canary Islands. Maybe this is a good way to start thinking about new materials, and the appreciation of traditional materials and ways of building.
