Most livable cities in the world: Tokyo, London, San Francisco, Zurich and Seattle. Criteria for livable cities: Environment, Public Transportation, Cultural Facilities & Events, Cost of Living, and Social & Political Stability. In Hong Kong the public transportation network is very extensive and well-developed. Most people do not need to own a car. They can travel by taxi, buses, mass transit railway, light rail, trams and ferries. And Hong Kong's airport is an international hub, in particular in connecting to mainland Chinese cities. The natural environment in Hong Kong is very hilly, with most of the land zoned as public parks. The remaining land is heavily built-up with dense high-rises. The city heavily relies on land reclamation to provide more land for development. There is a sense of physical and psychological denseness. Cultural facilities and events in Hong Kong are marginally satisfactory. There is a lack of quality performances and attendees are limited. Cultural events in the city are heavily subsidised by the government. The cost of living is heavily burdened by the cost of housing, which usually takes up half or more of the annual income. Real estate prices continually increase. Nearly half the population lives in public housing.
