In Canada, the biggest source of energy consumption is - specifically roads. And the vast majority of the energy used is sourced from oil products. In order to tackle this, I would look to trains as the primary solution. Canada already has a cross country rail system, but it is relatively under-utilised. I would create a policy into restoring and improving the rail system so that cross country shipping can be done via rail instead of trucks - and even ensure high speed rail is an available to make it a more appealing option for consumers and producers. I would also offer an incentive to cities to improve their transit systems - with options such as light rail, street cars, and busses to service the citizens on their daily commute. I would also offer a tax break or discount on transit price passes - so that people were incentivised to try using their city's transit system.
