Liveable Cities (based on ones I have visited): 1. Vancouver 2. Wellington 3. Melbourne 4. Victoria (Canada) 5. Portland Important Characteristics: 1. Safety/cleanliness 2. Access to nature 3. Ability to navigate the city without a car 4. Access to amenities/education 5. Climate I am fortunate enough to live in the city I stated as being the most liveable (Vancouver). However, it would be improved. I Safety and cleanliness in Vancouver is overall very high, the the exception of certain areas, such as the Downtown Eastside. The DTES has a large homeless population, and has to handle a lot of issues surrounding drug use, mental health, and petty crime. I believe that political and social intervention would greatly benefit the area (ie. help the community access safe housing, providing subsidized mental health services, setting up clean injection sites), and improve the safety and cleanliness of the city. The city is relatively walk and bike friendly, but improving transit (increasing train numbers and lines) would be good. Vancouver has phenomenal access to nature, no changes needed. Same with amenities and education. Climate cannot be changed - but the city could improve outside areas to make them more accessible in the rain
