Energy - it flows into the city from non-renewable sources (ex. gas and petrol) and renewable sources (ex. wind and hydro-electric) - it is then stored as a stock in various forms (batteries, etc) - is it then converted into other things (light, heat, electricity) - in the future, it could come from more renewable sources, and we could have better storage capacity and distribution Food - flows into the city primarily as import - it is stored in supermarkets and homes before being consumed - it leaves as waste and nutrients - in the future, it could be more locally produced Water - water is an abundant resource, coming from precipitation, underground spring, rivers, and the ocean - it is stored and facilities, dams, water tables, and resevoirs - it then flows out as waste or is converted into something else, like hydroelectric power - in the future, it could be used more for power, or we could see salty ocean water being converted into fresh water for consumption
