2. Which are the main UHI effects that you can identify in your area? Alarming alarming air quality reports and public announcements to avoid exposure in the past two years. Ozone, NO2 and PM10 pollution is more exacerbated throughout the year. Temperature is higher than average, more prominent in winter months which are warmer than ever. The temperature difference is felt between built-up city center (Picture 1) and green suburban areas (Picture 1). 3. Which are the measures you would propose? I would expand green areas in the city and upgrade existing green in the city. I would enable subsidies for building upgrades (insulation, white/green roofs) and increase low and zero emission transportation. 4. Is UHI effect concerning policy making in your area? The city follows the national and European legislation regarding air quality protection. The city has several regulations in place which cover climate change adaptation and mitigation. The Air Protection program has 5 goals and following measures which are aimed at improving air quality, lower emissions, improve stakeholder engagement and cooperation and climate change adaptation.
