With Globalization affecting the local standard practices of the construction and impacting the construction process all across the globe , i hereby have attached an image of a famous area in Mumbai where i spent my weekends for shopping .The photo taken is of the very busy lane of BHULESHWAR MARKET, near the famous CP Tank ,which is very known for its vernacular architecture located in MUMBAI city in INDIA.Looking at the history BHULESHWAR is neighborhood in SOUTH MUMBAI, famous for the large number of HINDU TEMPLES,COLONIAL TIMBER ARCHITECTURE ,flower market ,women jewelry and antiques, etc. In the image you can find the SWAMI NARAYANTEMPLE which dates 130 years approximately ,built using traditional available materials like Stone and TIMBER ,later refurbished or conserved by painting it every year. The abutting residential settlements on the left side of the Temple ,are LOAD BEARING ; Two tiers ;dating around 50 to 90 years old .The materials used for construction are mainly CONCRETE and TIMBER balcony for the exterior facade. However , the parts of these colonial buildings over a period of time have been conserved or reconstructed using GLASS CURTAIN WALL ,RCC(REINFORCED CEMENT CONCRETE),CEMENT PLASTER and EXTERIOR PAINT COATINGS .The image also shows two buildings one which is under construction and a residential skyscraper at the background in top left side in the the image , which demonstrates us the transition of building materials used for Construction over a period of time of 100 years. This photo shows a periodical transition on how GLOBALIZATION has impacted the construction process from the local practices to GLOBAL practices. This has not only deeply impacted the architectural heritage of BHULESHWAR ,but also ruined the RARE COLONIAL TIMBER ARCHITECTURE at BHULESHWAR which needs to be conserved.Designers and localities are completely aware that the heritage value of one of the richest HINDU colonies of MUMBAI which is BHULESHWAR is degrading.
