1. Oil, coal and gas are the dominant fossil fuels that Japan relies on. Additionally, the country heavily depends on imports from abroad. 2. In Japan, fossils fuels are dominantly used in transport, industry, and power generation (73% relying on coal and natural gas). 3. The main issue that I would try to tackle is energy production. Japan is a resource scarce country that struggles to cover its energy demands. Even as one of the largest hydropower producers in the world, it still relies mainly on fossil fuels to make up for the temporary halt in production from nuclear power plants (on halt since the 2011 Fukushima disaster). Therefore, in my opinion instead of relying on the eventual restart of nuclear power plants and using fossil fuels as temporary remedy, efforts should be made to grow the market share of renewable energy sources.
