The Urban Heat Island in Malaysia of course is highest at its capital Kuala Lumpur, with temperatures soaring sometimes over 37 degrees celsius. Where I live in the rural area far 400 kilometers on the east coast town is much more cooler, ranging to about maybe 20 degrees even at at night proving to show how cool it can be. The difference in the temperature is due to the built environment, hardscapes of buildings, pavement and lesser greenery in compared to the rural outskirts. The microclimate of urban parks of the city ( bird park KL for example) is much cooler than the city center by several degrees due to the canopies of trees and absorption of the biophilic elements. As for policies? Malaysia has n Malaysia, National Urbanization Policies 1 & 2 (NUP 1 & 2) along with many district plan, national plan, yet a qualitative research paper by Ramakreshnan et. al (2019) reports that awareness of public toward UHI is still too low to make an impact in enforcing this forward to where it should go.
