FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2020-01-26 by Liudas Mikalkevicius
I would like to share the view from the city center of Vilnius, Lithuania. As the name of the photo suggests - it was taken on January 12, 2020 at 3:05:23PM. The visible information shows the winter climate in this part of the world - absence of snow, somewhat cloudy sky, it's light but the sunset seems to be approaching soon. The architecture is baroque, 4-5 floor buildings, shops on the ground floor. Car traffic is forbidden but only on weekends and weekdays from 7pm till 4am. People are wearing thick clothes, mostly dark colors. The 2 pieces of invisible information that can be extracted from this photo are: 1) Numbers of pedestrians on the street. 49 people can be counted in this photo; 2) Age demographics of the pedestrians (7 children and 2 strollers can be seen). The city of Vilnius has a long lasting debate about banning cars from this street. The numbers of the pedestrians among other informations can help make the decision to ban cars from this street. Analyzing data about people's movements through this street over the days of the week would give strong evidence that people feel better with no cars around.
