FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2020-01-14 by Christos Tziotas
This photo was taken of an area on the outskirts of Bjorkelangen. The area is covered by floodwater from a river 200-300 meters from where the image was taken. The area that is covered with water consists of a football field and a pedestrian road/sidewalk that leads the inhabitants from the urban area, over the bridge, and to a big village housing area. The invisible information that we could gather from the photo, is that there might be water- & wastewater pipes and manholes that could need service beneath the storm/floodwater. So if the manholes and pipes are located precisely in a GIS-database - it's location is of great importance to the cities inhabitants and the city's water- & wastewater department. The flooded pedestrian road/sidewalk could also be a piece of invisible information if there were some type of sensor or connectivity with mobile devices that shows how many are crossing the bridge every day. In that way, you could plan to build the pedestrian road/sidewalk differently or alert the inhabitants of flooded road/sidewalks and inform them to take a different route. In that way, the city is both smart- and responsive to some degree. Answered question 3.4
