1. Checked 2. I will use my hometown, Thessaloniki in this example rather than Glasgow, as I think it has a much more significant effect of UHI. In a typical day in August temperature can reach 35°C while Halkidiki (a nearby rural place) usually is 5-7°C steadily. The reasons that contribute to the temperature difference are the city density , humidity , the lack of greenery as well as geographical location. 3. I would propose more greenery and parks with water element for cooling during the summer. Traffic is also a very big issue in Thessaloniki, so different parking policies and promotion of public transportation would also be extremely beneficial. 4. There are no policies acknowledging or aiming to tackle this issue in my hometown. The only visible result was a series of fans and water elements in a small area of the city center as part of the urban regeneration scheme. They do offer a comfort cooling but the effect is very sporadic and does not resolve the issue for surrounding areas.
