FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2020-01-09 by Steve Reeves
This is a photo of historic Main St. in downtown Racine, WI. Most of the building were built in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. There is a recent conceptual architectural plan out to revitalize this seven block stretch of Main St. Today this street is a perfect example of “invisible”. There are stores, restaurants and flats that people don’t know exist. There is no reason for people to come down and walk around. In the meantime, the stores and restaurants go out of business and the second and third floor flats remain vacant. It looks like a ghost town most of the time. The plan is to make things more visible. More reasons to entice people to want to visit downtown. Bike paths, more trees and flowers, colorful awnings, more benches, better parking, etc. The ultimate goal in my view is to make the invisible more visible. Everyone is hoping it works.
