1. Dallas: 3.8°c Miami: 1.7°c Denver: 4.9°c . It is clearly observed that there is a huge variation in temperatures. The temperature in the cities is a bit more than the temperatures in the rural areas due to the heat island effect. 2. In my city, Shiraz, as you move from city center to the peripheral regions, you notice an at least 3°c difference in air temperature. This difference could reach to 5-6°c or more as you move towards rural areas around Shiraz. Some reasons for these differences are: o Less green areas and opens spaces in the city center. o Density and the height of buildings. o Numbers of cars and car traffic in the city center. 3. The measures I would like to propose are promoting green architecture by: Prevent the destruction of gardens and reserving space for landscape in the city and build parks and gardens. The improvement can also be done by improvement of public transport which will reduce the number of polluting vehicles on the road. 4. To which degree I know, there are no comprehensive plans to mitigate UHI in my country. (Foto is not mine.)
