2. The UHI effect in Chiang Mai, Thailand, translates to around +4 degrees C difference vs the rural surroundings during the night and around +2 degrees during the night. The city is heated up mostly due to heavy reliance on concrete, relatively few urban green spaces, and high traffic (cars emit hot fumes increasing low-height temperatures). In turn, the surroundings are covered in woods, mountainous, and abundant in natural water reservoirs. 3. Increase the number of urban green spaces by decreasing the number of lanes on major thoroughfares and promoting green mobility. 4. The UHI is not concerning at all for the city authorities. In fact, all climate-related policies, including those relating to air pollution, are wholly absent from the government's actions.
