Two clarifications: First, the name of the city is spelled Mayagüez. The field "Place" didn't accept it even without the diaeresis. Second, I didn't take the picture because being handicapped, it is difficult for me to go to town and take pictures. Mayagüez is the third largest metropolitan area in Puerto Rico with a rich Spanish heritage which is notorious in the architecture of its oldest buildings, particularly the cathedral whose dome is salient in the picture. Since becoming a USA territory in 1898, the American influence has impacted the culture, and with it, the Spanish language which is complemented with Anglicisms. Puerto Rico is the smallest of the Greater Antilles. Mayagüez is a college town with several universities campuses with the largest being the University of Puerto Rico's Mayagüez Campus which holds the Engineering School. The economy of this town revolves around the students, an invisible characteristic. Being a college town, its population fluctuates with time. Largely composed by students coming from all over the island, not only its population is seasonal, but its average age and automobile traffic flow.
