This Building at Kreuzplatz in Zurich (new building of Migros) consists partly of exposed concrete. Switzerland has to import part of concrete and aggregates (sand, gravel and crushed stone). Switzerland has no access to the sea and therefore no sea sand. Sand and gravel from Swiss riverbeds and gravel pits are limited - and do not always correspond to the required quality. This is how Switzerland depends on imports - and globalisation affects the Swiss construction industry.
