I live in the city of Beirut in Lebanon. I commute to work everyday and I only have two choices; I either go with my car or walk since we do not have a public transport system in Lebanon. The distance between my home and work is around 4 Km and the trip takes me 11 min if there is no traffic if I am driving and around 40 min if I am walking. Both options are not very satisfactory: if I am driving, I am usually stuck in bad traffic and I am aware that I am contributing to air pollution; if I am walking the route is more interesting but the infrastructure is not pedestrian friendly (small pavements, car dominance, unshaded walkways, etc.). I believe developing a public transport would increase the satisfaction of citizens and highly contribute to enhance livability in the city.
