Liveability is a set of different criteria that measures the quality of life in a place (town, city, suburb). This, for example, includes safety, natural environment, culture, infrastructure, governance, economic opportunity, healthcare, and education. Ultimately, liveability is a relative term and means different things for different people in different places. Personal rank of liveability criteria: 1)Environment, 2)Transportation, 3)Housing, 4)Opportunity, 5)Health, 6)Neighbourhood, 7)Engagement US Cities and their liveability scores: -Austin, TX, =57 -Portland, OR =58 -Chicago, IL =53 US Cities, their customised liveability scores (weighted most on environment) and change(+/-): -Austin, TX, =51 (-6 change) -Portland, OR =31 (-27 change) -Chicago, IL =46 (-7 change) Personally, I think that the environment is very important towards how liveable a place is. This would include clean air, quality of water, and climate. For the Liveability index, the environment score also takes into account how resilient a city is in an emergency/natural disaster. When customised to "environment", the total liveability score went down for all states, with Portland seeing the biggest negative change in liveability. This suggests that the chosen cities could be lacking supply of quality drinking water and experience high levels of pollution.
