Some significant examples of stocks and flows in Indonesia are of 1)energy, 2)materials and 3)density. 1)Indonesia’s main supply of energy sources includes coal, crude oil, natural gas, and geothermal energy, and is predominantly used for private transportation. Coal, crude oil, and natural gas are exported to various countries and contribute substantially to the Indonesian economy. In the future, Indonesia needs to explore and improve energy efficiency from increasing the use of renewable energy sources (e.g. geothermal, solar, hydropower) to reduce environmental and health impacts. 2)Jakarta, Indonesia's capital city, is expanding and there is a need for a considerable amount of materials (e.g. steel, aluminium, concrete) to support the construction of projects in the city (e.g. Mass Rapid Transit, flyovers, office buildings, apartments, housing etc.), as well as the relocation of the country's capital from Jakarta. In the future, there needs to be stricter regulations and material recycling. 3)Millions of people commute into and out of Jakarta daily from the Greater Jakarta area (Jabodetabek), using private passenger vehicles. Thus for the future, Jakarta’s flow patterns need to be analysed using a spatial network module, for example, so that urban planners can better understand how to tackle Jakarta’s crowding and congestion problems.
