Workers and Jobs Campos is a city in the countryside of Rio de Janeiro state, with population about 500 thousand people. Campos Petroleum Basin is one the most important places of production of oil in Brazil. But the Industry of Production and Exploration of Petroleum and Gas (E&P) is based in MacaƩ where have better opportunity of job: almost 20 thousand of people goes there per day to work. Petroleum The Campos Basin has the most important fields of offshore petroleum exploration in Brazil and produce a type of oil that is not refined near it. The majority of oil produced in Brazil is refined outside the country. Royalties The oil is not a resource directly used in this region: almost all companies are in MacaƩ. But the cities receive money from oil and its economy is dependent of this industry: workers, schools, indirect services and royalties payed to the municipality. Discussion Petroleum is a non-reusable resource. The cities need to invest in better education, information and innovation. But we can see a resource curse: the abundance of natural resources has as consequence less economic growth. The industries of E&P pay higher salaries and the traditional economy is deprived.
