It isn't a good photo. But it was taken by me and it is the photo of a floor structure that was constructed at least 150 years ago, in an old farm house. This image shows structures made from local materials as wood, one and a half century ago. The house was resconstructed and the floor was preserved. The use of wood and straw is very common in Brazil, specially in the north and northeast of the country. Wood is frequently used in amazon forest architecture: used as structure, walls, floor and roofs. For native and traditional communities its uses can be sustainable. For new urban centres, it is not. Brazil is a tropical and humid country and, int that way, adobe tiles and bamboo is not common in this tradicional architecture: both materials are very susceptible to water and fungus. However, I have to confess that, after these videos, I am very impressed of the advances in using of bamboo as a substitute to steel ins construction.
