There are lots of important stocks and flows in my city (Rotterdam). Food, people, water, energy, materials, capital, density, information, containers, etc. The last one is particularly visible an tangible in the harbour. Trucks and boats (flows ans stocks in their own way) bring in containers into the city (flow), they are stored (stock) and transported/distributed further out and into the city (flow). Improving information flows can also reduce (physical) stock and improve physical flows. Another example of improvement possibilities are in the density: taking the density into consideration and trying to influence these in urban design can provide for better surroundings in which people feel better.
