FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2016-09-06 by rschonb
A sewage system is visible, various forms of transportation, as well as some underground parking in the very back. The street is well lit. There are some large residential buildings in the back, and some historical buildings on the right a bit as well. The biggest thing that can be taken from this photo is the importance of transportation in the city. On the right, there is a subway entrance. In the back, some car traffic is visible—including a city bus as well as a tour bus. The first bit of invisible information that can be extracted is this area is an important part of the city historically and attracts a lot of tourists. The street is also well constructed for on-going automobile traffic of all types. The other piece of information that can be extracted is that this area of the city is also a residential area, so generally, families or business people traverse through this area. City buses are frequent in Chicago used by locals and tourists alike. The easy transportation systems support two main groups of people, tourists and businessmen/businesswomen. Because this urban area contains a lot of tourists and business people, appealing to the sufficient-side of people (regarding availability of food, supplies, internet, etc.) is one example of using the invisible information to contribute to make the area a more livable urban space.
