Copenhagen area Main UHI effects (observations based on https://static-curis.ku.dk/portal/files/34391374/UHI_i_K_benhavn_25_august_2010_GRAS_LIFE_1.pdf): - surface temperature differences of up to 20 degrees Celsius between inner Copenhagen and outskirts only when air temperatures are above 25-28 degrees Celsius (registered in juli 20th 2006, the warmest day of that year) - the coldest areas are the ones with water surface. - highest temperatures in urban areas that are intensely paved and where it's been built more densely, compared with areas that are less dense and which include green and water areas. - green areas with trees are generally colder that green areas only with grass. Main measures: - more green roofs and green facades. - light coloured roofs. - create more green spaces - especially more trees along the lakes, which better regulate the temperature. - identify the warmest areas and start creating more green areas where it's most needed. Existing policies: - green initiatives - public squares with more green areas and storage of rainwater to be later used by the vegetation (example: new city hall square, Sankt Annæ Plads). - preserving the existing green infrastructure when areas are being built (example - preservation of Amager Fælled along Ørestad development).
