1. Provisioning services: Fresh Water. In Berlin all households are provided with fresh water through the municipality. Most of this water comes from the surounding lakes of the city, which feed into the ground water. 2. Regulating services: Pollination. In Berlin, similar to many other Germany cities, there is an active citicen community, which encourages bee keeping. In warm summers the quantity of wasps can be an issue, causing many citicens to regard all insects as dangerous. Therefore there are multiple NGOs promoting the safekeeping of bees and promoting their positive attributes. 3. Habitat or supporting services: Habitat for species. In Berlin the old airfield, which was transformed into a park in the last decade, has become a sanctuary for a local type of bird. This bird nests on the ground. Therefore the local municipality cuts off large parts of the grass area for the birds and keeps citizens form using it during the nesting season. 4. Cultural services: Recreation. In Berlin there are many parks, public swimming pools and outdoor sports areas. The city actively keeps these for the recreational use of the citizens.
