Switzerland is a mountainous country, lightly populated with a lot of respect for nature and tradition. Most settlements are in direct relation to lakes or rivers and are immediately affected by the mountainous areas surrounding them. Ecosystem services in the country, have a strong presence that can be easily seen in everyday life. The city of Geneva is established around Lake Leman, which is the source of clean water for the entire canton (provisioning). The surrounding grasslands and mountains are habitat for many indigenous species of flora and fauna and at the same time they support livestock and agriculture (habitat & supporting). Forests in the vicinity and big parks within the city limits regulate air quality and greenhouse gases, while they assure pollination and diversity (regulating). All of the above elements provide the setting for various recreation and sports activities, form trekking to cycling and from climbing to paragliding, while they also upkeep tourism (cultural).
