I live in the County of Fresno, California, USA. Within this county, there are multiple provisioning services- including lumber from the Sierra National Forest, water from the San Joaquin and Kings Rivers. Agriculture is the primary source of revenue for this region, but the majority is high-intensity, monoculture crops. The forests of the Sierra Nevada mountain range are important for carbon sequestration and storage- but the drought experienced in this region from 2011-2015 severely damaged the forests as fires were widespread, and there have been studies which show that replacement populations of trees is very low. These trees help prevent flooding and erosion during the rain season. The air quality in Fresno County is notoriously poor. The forests here are home to an abundance of species, as are the foothills bordering the Sierra Nevada mountains and San Joaquin Valley floor. However, at different parts of the year, we receive many species of migratory birds- perhaps the most beautiful being hummingbirds. We have two major National Parks within or partially within our county: Kings Canyon National Park, and Sequoia National park. These places are major tourist destinations, and are home to some of the largest organisms
