Waste, Water and Energy are three of the key stocks and flows in Singapore. As a city that is also an island nation, Singapore is challenged between the balance of land use for utilities for these stocks and flows against living space for urban use. This competition often limits the size of immigrant population which is another stock and flow. As immigration of talent is a vital part of Singapore's economic growth, this is a key issue. This is why the storage and transmission of these resources have now been moved underground. Also Singapore has converted using innovative technology unusable stocks like the salt water Marina Bay Basin(in the photo) into a usable freshwater Marina Reservoir. By going underground and other innovations, more land use has been freed up and would allow for more living space for Singapore to expand its population.
