This is a neighborhood in Bhopal. The area has a housing for BSUP Programme where govt. rehabilitate the slum evicted people. But the people are dis satisfied with the housing and so have built squatters in the adjoining vacant lands. There are dead end streets and open spaces are not planned in this area. There is a need for citizen design science interventions in this neighborhood. I would ensure people's participation by - asking them to draw a dream map where they would mark what amenities and facilities they want and where do they want them to be in their neighborhood - asking them for local techniques that they use to ensure their safety and build upon them - small scale best practices can be up-scaled for others to adopt As a planner, i would design a better road layout and a connected green space network in this area. The lighting in an area is a major factor ensuring safety for its residents. Adequate street infrastructure can help resolve this problem too.
