I have identified the stocks and flows of the transportation system, such as trams, highways, river transportation, and ocean transportation. From the picture, it is obvious that the transportation system shaped the setting and growth of cities. First of all, the old city of Tianjin was set at the 16th century when the main transportation method is by channels and river in regional scale, thus, the city was at the cross position of the rivers and the Channel where it served as a stock of goods. But nowadays, global exchange of goods relies much on ocean ports instead of rivers, the old city is no longer the stock of goods and new stock is forming around the ocean port which could be found in the left of the picture. For the future, the ocean port area will grow for the industry growth depends on the goods which stocked at the port to reduce costs of logistic.
