Mussoorie is a very old hill station with its modern day origin in 1823. its situated in lower Himalayan range and draws from its ecology, local resources and cultural traditions, when it comes to housing construction. traditionally the housing used locally available material like wood and stone and building practice. the city has many old houses with such construction, however with time modernity and globalisation has meant that old has married new in so many ways. the picture uploaded shows a set of houses and backside of church which has elements of both. the church was made mainly out of wood, the structure in front is largely stone, but the other house and parts of church now has many materials and construction technology like concrete, steel, tin, glass and wood. it uses RCC beams and modern furniture and heating devices. it's true that to imagine today a house completely done using local material and technology is inconceivable.
