Oil Natural Gas Transportation Industry Oil for transportation accounts for more than a third of Australia’s energy consumption. The first step I would take toward reducing Australia’s CO2 production is a transition to a sustainable transportation energy supply, such as solar or wind generated electricity. A transition such as this would require first the use of electric vehicles. To achieve this, electric vehicles need to be promoted, standardised and be more advantageous than standard modes of transport. Secondly sustainable energy plants need to be installed and plugged into the grid. These plants should eventually produce enough energy to account, at least, for Australian transportation energy demands. Other actions to take alongside these could include implementing a tax or taxes to increase the price of fossil fuel production to support sustainable energy industries. Also, encouraging or providing financial assistance for citizens to install renewable energy systems in their place of residence for electricity to fuel their vehicles and or houses. It is possible that in times of excess energy production energy could be sold back to the grid, thereby helping to provide renewable energy sources that can be used to cover the fuelling of other electric modes of transport.
