Currently, I live in a gated community at the outskirts of Moscow, Russia. The flows are cars, everyday products and water. Employees use their car to reach their working places. Everyday products such as foods and household goods are brought in by the inhabitants. Water is delivered through water pipes that are equipped with a filter. Of course, these in-flows are transformed into out-flows. On the one hand, the cars simply return after work. On the other hand, the household goods are all packaged and thereby produce waste that must be brought out of the gated community. This is done by the municipal waste logistics. The waste water runs through pipes into the sewerage system. The stock are the existing houses and infrastructure such as garden benches, waste bins, playground attractions, an outside barbecue area and parking space. In the future, it would be desirable that less waste is produced in order to save resources. Besides, it would also be beneficial for the environment if more employees would use the well-working public transport system. Finally, it is clear that every citizen should constantly try to use only as much water as necessary.
