FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2016-08-29 by Sérgio Ribeiro
This is a view of the mixed-use complex where I work. There are 7 buildings. 2 Hotels (Novotel and Ibis, Accor brands) and 5 destined for health, law and diverse types of offices. It has on its first floor green areas, shops, cafes and restaurants. This is the place where people meet and that can be named the "heart" of the complex. Another visible information is the architecture style and the materials applied to the buildings. It´s seen in this photo two buildings, green and circulation areas as well as its food court (the one in the center). This is the visible information. Beyond this it´s visible people that walk around and that meet and have their meals in the food court. On the other hand the invisible information that can extracted out of the visible one is how many people use the food court and in which time they do it. It allows the definition of strategies in order to improve the restaurants profitability. The quantity of shops´sales allows the administration to evaluate if the mall mix is correct or if it needs changes. The number of offices occupied is crucial. If it´s not proper in order to guarantee the shops and restaurants the quantity of customers that ensure them an expected profitability, it´s required the establishment of a comercial strategy that can fix this problem.
