First picture taken from: https://havanatimes.org/?p=118440 1. I live in Masaya, Nicaragua, in a rural area surrounded by trees. In the city of Managua, the temperature is usually 31-34C during daytime, while where I live the temperature is 30-32C. Managua is a city in continuing grow, and in order to make more roads the government has decided to take more space from green areas. In some places, real trees are being replaced with iron trees (some odd way to “decorate” the city) which is obviously not helping to reduce the UHI. The width of the streets, the lack of trees and green areas is what makes of the city a warmer place. 2. I would first propose the implementation of roof gardens and urban agriculture on top of the buildings. Thee use of white materials for the roofs and different materials for the facade of the buildings that could reduce the heat of the environment. Reduce the space used by cars and build more green areas, and transportation systems at the same time. Makes studies of the city so that its design is actually letting the wind move through it and take the heat away. 3. There aren´t such policies.
