MODULE 6: ENERGY FLOWS - ECUADOR 1.What are the dominant fossil fuels used in your country? According to the IEA (International Energy Agency) the dominant fossil fuels are petroleum and electricity. 2.Where are the dominant fossil fuels mainly used for in your country? They are used in transport, industries and households. 3.It is your task to create a new policy in order to improve the environmental friendly and sustainable sources and consumption of energy of your country. How would you do that? First, I would improve security in streets and public transportation. So people could feel safer and use more buses or metros. These will reduce the numbers of cars or motorcycles in the streets and would help the environment. Another problem here is the lack of other sources of energy. New energy sources should be implemented to make a better city and why not, a better world. We can use the water to make more hydropower plants. Also use solar panel, taking advantage of our tropical and sunny weather. At least in Guayaquil, wind power is not a good option because there isn’t much wind here. In the case of electricity consumption in houses. A solution to reduce the use of air conditioning could be to create models and design concepts of residential acclimatization. These concepts could be used and share in different types of residential projects, especially in social housing.
