name is Ambaye Kidane. I live in Toronto, Canada. 1.What are the dominant fossil fuels used in your country? Canada produces 563.7 Mtoe: 191.3 is consumed within Canada and 256.7Mtoe is exported. The dominant fossil fuels are oil production and oil imports (276 Mtoe); gas production and imports (163Mtoe); coal (30 Mtoe); and hydro, nuclear and other. 2. Where are the dominant fossil fuels mainly used for in your country? (e.g. transport, industry, non-energy use etc.) Most of the domestic consumption are in residential, commercial, public services, agriculture and forestry (64.6 Mtoe); transport (61.1 Mtoe); and industry (41.9 Mtoe). Non-energy use accounted for 23.7 Mtoe. 3. It is your task to create a new policy in order to improve the environmental friendly and sustainable sources and consumption of energy of your country. How would you do that? Think of how you can improve the sources and the consumption of energy. Potential areas for action: • Eliminate coal as a source of energy; • Reduce the amount of energy lost in power plants; • Increase the amount of energy coming from renewable energy sources (e.g. solar, biowaste and hydro); and • Introduce more measures to save energy.
