a. Provisioning services A nearby reservoir serves as a stock of freshwater for the area I live in. b. Regulating services Behind my apartment building is a creek which empties into Long Island Sound. A good portion of the creek is affected by tides and the fringes of the creek serve as a buffer against extreme weather events. c. Habitat or Supporting services Both the reservoir, which is protected from development along with portions of its watershed, and the tidal creek support waterfowl and other species by providing habitat. d. Cultural services Where the tidal creek meets the Long Island Sound, a linear park provides walking, sitting, and fishing. This is a major gathering place for the neighborhood people strolling or walking their dogs.
