This picture was taken from crhoy.com. San José, Costa Rica. In this photo you can see the Church and Park “La Merced”, as well as people socializing in the park. This park is surrounded by, besides the Church, a gas station and a Hospital. It’s next to some bus stations, and since is also located next to the second main street of San José, this is a very well frequented zone, both by pedestrians and traffic. What’s invisible?: 1. Most of the people that goes to this park are immigrants, specially Nicaraguans. 2. Due to the amount of people and traffic that moves in and around the park, there is too much noise inside the Hospital. How to use this knowledge? 1: We need to map the activity in this park, understand why people go there and where they come from, and if possible, make more places like this, they must be protected and even promoted, so that people create different activities to share their culture and traditions with other citizens, making of San José a more diverse and livable city.
