In the city of Novi Sad, there are visible effects of UHI. Since the climate has changed we are facing warmer and longer summers. People are taking it hard and there is a huge increase in air conditioning systems usage. On the left picture in my submission, you can see Novi Sad neighborhood which is very close to the city center. This picture was taken through my apartment window and you can see how the high frequent boulevard, wide space between eight-floor buildings and air conditioners can influence UHI. The picture on the right side (it is from Wikipedia: https://sr.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%91%D0%B5%D0%B3%D0%B5%D1%87#/media/File:Ulica_Kralja_Petra_I_Bege%C4%8D.JPG) shows Begeč, a suburban area of Novi Sad, which you can reach in 15 minutes driving from the place where the left picture was taken. Low houses, open streets, and vegetation are definitely reducing the UHI effect. 3. We have a problem with urbanization, we don’t plan well, parking lots are taking places in green areas, and commercialization almost always have an advantage over sustainability. So for a start, I would demand more parks and open spaces, which could contribute to the UHI reduction. 4. No, there are not any as far as I know.
