FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2016-06-21 by Swati Dutta
This photo is taken in Amritsar, Punjab. 1) VISIBLE INFORMATION - The photograph shows residential buildings, street, people of various types (pedestrians, people on two and three wheelers, hawkers etc.). The other information that one can make out is the that it is an unplanned and some what old area of the city. 2) INVISIBLE INFORMATION - The information that we can infer from the photograph is that it is a CROWDED and NOISY area. Also seeing the intermixing of the various types of users (pedestrians, people on vehicles, shops and informal markets spilling on to the road) it can be inferred that there are NO DESIGNATED ZONES for the different users. 3) Considering the knowledge/information gained from making the invisible visible, several planning and urban design interventions can help to demarcate zones for the different users and thus create a lot of clarity and order. This in turn shall also help to reduce the crowding and congestion as well as confusion on the road and also make it less noisy and more attractive for buyers, sellers, pedestrians etc.
