The photo shows a building in construction that will become a school, in the "Alto do Mandú" neighborhood. Since the beginning of Modernism Architecture in Brazil, the buildings started do have components such as concrete — even in the structure of the building: slab, column, and beam —, as the principal component of the building. In Recife, the Modernism started in the early '30s, with the architect Luiz Nunes. From now on, the constructive materials used in Modernism began to manifest all over the city, which made the concrete the principal element of Recife's constructions. Even with the globalization of materials and the enlargement of steel on the structure (steel deck slab, steel frame), the concrete still has a big amount of use in buildings. This component, mainly, and other shared materials used in the school such as bricks, steel, and cement board have involvement in the globalized economy.
