FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2018-11-14 by Gary Buck
I am living in an area that is about to build a new underground train station. They have spent a lot of time trying to make "visible" all those services that are underneath the footpaths. There has been some digging but it has mostly been done my radar type machines and the results are written on the paths. What does it tell us about the city? It tells where the water /sewer runs, where the power runs and where the telco cables run. Imagine what a wealth of information that comes from those connections! I know that from time to time they publish the suburbs that have the biggest drug problems based on sewer info! If we knew what movies were being dragged down those internet pipes then we'd know more about cultural habits perhaps. By time of day we might learn who is at home, who are shift workers?? It also carries CCTV information from the various building to their security companies....from that we could learn more about everyone in all the buildings. The information that flows from this data is enormous.
