Which are your top livability criteria? I. infrastructure N. safety P. Transportation H. Housing B. Culture 2. Why do we live where we live? I am currently living in Amsterdam. There are much more than 5 reason why I am living in Amsterdam, within them are: Safety; Infrastructure; Transportation; Education; Culture. Safety it is in the top of the list because I used to live in an unsafe city, where the quality of life was compromised by the fear. In a safe place, you can relax and enjoy the best of the city. The windows do not have fences, the children play on the street, and the city is alive 24 hours per day. The second criteria is infrastructure. Once I first visited the Netherlands I was surprised by the infrastructure; roads, water supply, electrical grids, sewers, telecommunications, are all state of art. Little needs to be done and yet the country is always looking for infrastructure improvements. The third, is easy. Have the freedom to do everything using your bike. No traffic jams, no money spent, no stress with bus/metro delays. The access to higher quality education was the reason that brought me to the Netherlands. Amsterdam offers great and affordable universities, and the country knows the importance to invest in education. In my opinion, education access has the same importance as infrastructure. Most of the social problems can be related to the low level of education. Follow by education, the last pointed cited by me is culture. Amsterdam offers culture access for all tastes, museums, concerts, libraries. What could I want more? 3. To what extend does your own place of residence fulfill your ideal livability criteria? I. infrastructure - 80 N. Safety - 80 P. Transportation - 90 H. Housing - 70 B. Culture - 80 General livability score of Amsterdam: 85 4. What would you change? If I have the opportunity to change or improve something in Amsterdam, I would invest more in social housing. Every year the housing prices are increasing drastically in Amsterdam, and it getting hard to the working class to afford private accommodations in the city. As result of the price increasing, neighborhoods have been gentrified and people are searching for houses in the outskirts of Amsterdam. In my opinion, the gentrification is a social problem, which can also create the decrease of safety and the increase of traffic jams. Consequences that will reduce the livability of Amsterdam. Thus, investment in social and affordable housing will increase livability, avoiding social, cultural and infrastructural problems. 5. Why do we move? Singapore: Safety; Transportation; Economy; Infrastructure; Job Opportunities. Hong Kong: Safety; Transportation; Economy; Infrastructure; Job Opportunities. Rio de Janeiro: Culture; Recreation Possibilities; Climate; International Connectivity; Environment.
