1.While comparing the temperature difference between the cities of US, it is concluded that the temperature in cities is higher than nearby rural areas. In Chicago, the temperature is 21 degrees hotter in the city than in nearby rural areas. 2.In my area, this effect can be clearly evident as the population is increasing due to better opportunities in capital city and new buildings are being built up in order to cater to need of shelter. The building materials also increase this effect. Thermal contrast varies from 4-7°C in April to 7- 10°C in May-June. At night, the temperature over the central parts of Delhi is 4-7°C, higher than surrounding regions. City has larger amount of bitumen (roads), so, it has higher effect than in the rural areas. 3.The measures that I would like to propose in my city to decrease the effect of urban heat island effect is afforestation to keep the area comparatively cooler. Proposing rooftop and vertical gardens would also help reducing the effect and increasing human comfort and livability. 4.The government is trying to decrease pollution and promote afforestation. The public transportation facilities are also being promoted like metro which is rapidly expanding.
