Aarhus is not on your drop-down menu, so I chose Aalborg instead. Most liveable cities: 1. Minneapolis 2. Aarhus 3. Montreal 4. Brisbane 5. Seattle Five characteristics: 1. Addressing population growth and gentrification - Healthy cities should grow, but sudden growth can be extremely dangerous for the welfare of a city and will most likely result in gentrication. 2. Diverse population - Being that gentrification tend to push minorities out of cities, a diverse population is then an indicator of a liveable city. 3. Mixed-use - Makes for a more lively and safe city because people will be entering and exiting areas at different times of the day. 4. Well-designed public spaces - Public spaces is what makes a city, therefore, it's important that they are based on human-centered design. 5. Preservation/Innovation - Room for both; to think ahead but also to value the past. Aarhus is a livable city on many accounts. The downtown core has many mixed-use buildings, well-designed public spaces, and many preserved as well as new innovative buildings. But there is almost no diversity within the population, which is largely due to racist immigration laws. Changing that would require an overhaul of Danish perceptions and laws.
