FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2018-10-27 by Kathleen Cummings
In this picture, we can see several office buildings and in the forefront, there's land. We can see some cars parked on the street and there's a post with electrical wires. These are visible information.Invisible information includes their occupancy rates and the quality of the air in this neighborhood along with the ratio of parks versus buildings. What if we knew how many commercial buildings are empty/vacant? Or if we knew how much square footage of rental space is empty? They’re too often built but unrented. What if there was a limit set on the number of empty buildings or square footage in a city? This could ultimately slow down the construction of more buildings whereby allowing more forests to exits for as long as possible without destroying them to build a building that might remain empty for a long time. Everyone knows the more forests and greenery there is, the better it is for human health and for the planet. It helps reduce or slow down global warming and cleans the air by creating more oxygen. Builders could be held responsible to register new buildings with the city and then the owners would have to enter the tenants.
