1. It can be clearly observed from the temperature data that the temperature is much higher in cities as compared to its surrounding rural environment, due to high density of the built environment leading to UHI. 2. Average temperature of New Delhi in summers is 32-45 degree centigrade. Due to UHI, the temperature in city is 3-6 degree higher than in the surrounding rural areas. The reason for higher temperature in the city is due to the growing population, which demands for more built environment, transportation and infrastructure, leading to increased density of built environment, making UHI. 3. To avoid UHI effects, I would promote green architecture, shading devices, vertical walls, cool roofs through rooftop gardens, increased landscaping and waterbodies, green parking lots. I would also promote public transportation and cycling tracks. 4. The government is promoting the use of Public transport such as metros to control the pollution levels. Transit oriented development is being planned to promote pedestrians to walk or use cycle to travel shorter distances. The government is also promoting green architecture through techniques such as installation of cool roofs, cool/ shaded pavements, shaded streets and parking lot etc.
