My name is Silvan. This photo is taken in a plaza in West Covina, California. We used to build homes and shelters with local materials that are easily accessible. For example, if you live by the redwood forest your house would probably be constructed out of redwood logs. Not until the Egyptians decided to have giant triangular objects just showing up in the middle of the desert. Even how they actually built it is still a secret. They still managed to move giant stones from far away and stack them there. As we can see in the photo, there are many light sconces being mounted on the wall along the wall of the shopping center. Those light sconces are made of acrylic board that were imported from China, and it was designed in Santa Monica, and constructed by couple Hispanic fabricators. In which, I think it’s a pretty great example of showing globalized economy in building construction. At the same time, the wall faux rock tiles are probably imported from out of state too. I think out sourcing construction materials are a huge waste and great damage to the environment.
